Path of Exile Subjected to Hackers Last Weekend

by on April 22, 2024

Those who signed up for Path of Exile II early access might want to change their Steam passwords since the devs’ Steam account has been compromised. According to MMO Fallout, Grinding Gear Games released a Path of Exile II Early Access signup on Steam over the weekend. It states that:

“Earlier today, a malicious news post containing a phishing link went up on the Path of Exile Steam page from a compromised account. The post was taken down quickly, but if you followed the link or suspect your account may also be compromised, please take immediate action to secure your account.”

The hackers not only added an Early Access signup but curated a fake news post stating that applications were open, giving players hope that Path of Exile II would be available before release.

People were directed to a website with an application form where they submitted sensitive details. So if you entered information into the fields, change your Steam information and check your PC for malware and viruses.

As of yet, there is no release date set for the free-to-play action RPG, which may have prompted a few fans to get a bit overzealous when they saw early access signups, but fear not, the real thing will arrive soon enough.

Players should be extremely careful when submitting sensitive data online. Always double-check the source of the website before introducing your data.

Another important advice is to update any online access that you may have using similar passwords or details. If you submitted your email address you should also brace for a barrage of SPAM coming your way.

You can defend yourself by implementing standard Spam protocols, but even so, many will seep through the cracks. You can keep abreast of new releases by subscribing to our newsletter or visiting us for frequent updates. Pr, visit Path of Exile.
