Kakao Games to Release ArcheAge 2 and Chrono Odyssey

by on May 9, 2024

As part of its Q1 2024 financial report, South Korean publisher Kakao Games announced that both of its hotly anticipated UE5 action MMORPGs are in line with development goals. Both ArcheAge 2 and Chrono Odyssey will be coming to global release in 2025.

To date, three action RPGs are being developed with UE5 tech. However, the third, tentatively titled The Swordmaster’s Youngest Son, is not slated for release until 2026.

Notably, Lineage’s Jake Song is at the helm of ArcheAge 2, a sequel to the 2013 sandpark MMORPG. Announced in 2022, it was set for launch in 2024, but Kakao postponed the game until the second half of 2024.

As a result, we can practically assume that they will launch in 2025. We also learned a while ago that ArcheAge 2 would be refocused on PvE and Guild versus Guild rather than large-scale PvP.

In addition, Chrono Odyssey was first announced in late 2020, and the first update was made in late 2020. The game was re-revealed last year by developer NPIXEL stating it would use UE5 and target PCs and consoles

The main attribute of the game is time, which will be incorporated into the storyline and combat in some way. It was again showcased at GDC 2024 as one of Epic’s showcases of Unreal Engine 5.

There are some noteworthy games in Kakao Games’ lineup, all of which are highly anticipated. The teasers have so far proven on par and will likely become hot numbers.

  • The PC and mobile MMORPG Odin: Valhalla Rising will launch in North America and Europe in 2024;
  • Blackout Protocol, a twin-stick shooter currently in Steam Early Access, will launch in the first half of next year.
  • and the rogue-lite tactical RPG Lost Eidolons: Veil of the Witch is also planned for 2024
  • Next year, Kakao will launch a post-apocalyptic/sci-fi looter shooter PC and console game codenamed Project S and made on UE5.
